       Displaying and Nesting Egrets, some with chicks

       Nesting Black Crowned Night Herons

       Eagles, Great Blue Herons, Cormorants, Baby Ducks, etc.

       The event includes tips on approaching and photographing wildlife, capturing birds standing, wading, fishing, and in-flight, composition, lighting, exposure, etc.

       Tom will demonstrate techniques and settings to get better standing and flying bird photographs. Shutter speed, ISO, burst mode, focusing, focus limiter, focus peaking, etc.

       This event has a small number of participants to enhance learning and composition as well as subject access.

       Your enthusiasm, your willingness to try new things, to even be frustrated (at times) in the ultimate pursuit of knowledge and better images and photographic nirvana.

       Camera (ANY make and model)

       All of your batteries (and charger) and your Memory cards

       Lenses: Longest focal length

       plus telephoto, macro, wide angle, etc. (you have access to your car)

       Tripod or monopod (optional)

       Clothing: layers, rain gear (just in case), insect and tick repellant

PROFICIENCY LEVEL AND PHYSICAL DIFFICULTY:

·       All skill levels welcome! We are patient & well-versed in explaining photography concepts and encourage questions and exploration.


·       All camera makes and models are welcome: mirrorless, dSLRs, medium format cameras, smartphone cameras, film cameras, etc.

·       No strenuous activity will be involved during the event. We will have easy access to our car for most activities.

ITINERARY

·       The event includes photography instruction & motivation along with location and subject knowledge and advice.

·       The event includes tips on approaching and photographing wildlife, capturing birds standing, wading, fishing, and in-flight, composition, lighting, exposure, etc.

·       While Tom takes the lead in the field, there are two of us for individualized advice and mentoring for each participant.

·       Start Time May 6th 6:30am EST (2 locations)

·       Event concludes May 7th  11am EST

·       Post-Event: Upload your images to the specific event album: Facebook.com/groups/lisatom.photos

·       For some photo events we will have a post-event zoom call for image evaluation.

·       You can always add on a one-on-one mentoring, post-processing or image evaluation session.


INCLUDES:

·       Photography instruction, field demonstrations, and motivation along with occasional challenges and assignments.

·       Location expertise

·       Knowledge and advice regarding subject(s) and settings.

·       Practical and Creative inspiration and motivation.

·       Supportive formal or informal image review.

·       Small groups. Our events typically have 3-10 participants, this is to make sure everyone can easily compose their images without other photographers in the scene.

·       While Tom takes the lead in the field, there are two of us for individualized advice and mentoring for each participant.

LODGING, FOOD, AND TRANSPORTATION:

·       While we do include lodging for some of our photo events, the hotel is NOT included for this event.

·       Food, lodging, airfare, optional trip insurance, transportation, and tips & gratuities are NOT included.

·       Email us for the hotel after you sign up. We will be staying in a location <30 minutes from different bird locations. Book early as hotels do fill up.

·       For outside events, participants are responsible for  NWR, State, Federal, Park, and/or refuge fees (if applicable).

·       For UrbEx venues, the location fee IS included unless otherwise specified.

·       We actively encourage but do not arrange, carpooling to the location (after you have signed up, we can put you in touch with other attendees).

·       Once you arrive, it is VERY useful (and occasionally required) for participants to carpool to locations.

GETTING THERE

·       For sensitive animal or UrbEx locations we often do not publicize the exact location. Email us for the exact mileage for travel from your location.


·       This photo event is ~194 miles from the GW bridge or ~215 from Tappan Zee (Mario Cuomo) bridge.

·       The nearest Airport (MDT) Harrisburg Int’l ~32-miles (BWI ~69miles, PHL ~110 miles)

POLICIES

·       Please note that all of our events require that participants sign a liability waiver (please fill out https://tinyurl.com/LisaTom-FormA. Note some locations & venues may also have their own waiver. Thank you!

·       Please note that this and all events have no refunds unless the event is full and someone takes your place. You may transfer your spot to someone else if you cannot attend. If you leave early for any reason, there is no refund/partial refund. Consider getting travel insurance. SAFETY MEASURES:

·       Tom & I are fully vaccinated and boosted. Our events are mainly outdoors. Meals can be complicated, sometimes we suggest take out & eat as a group. Feel free to wear a mask when indoors, in close proximity, etc.  We follow and adhere to safety measures and CDC guidelines to prevent spreading the virus. Please note that health measures may change based on state/local government, CDC recommendations, legal advisement, etc. Here is what you need to know and comply with:

·       Anyone with a fever over 100 degrees must not attend. Please check your temperature BEFORE you leave home. 

·       Anyone with COVID-like symptoms must not attend. Anyone who has recently knowingly come in contact with a COVID positive person must not attend.

·       If you obtain a positive COVID test right before an event, please contact us ASAP. If possible, we may transfer some of the fee (depending on direct cost) to a future event.

·       People who arrive with symptoms or not wearing a mask (when required) properly will be asked to leave, no refunds.
