We love any chance to take photographs! Photography gives us superpowers, lol, we can freeze time. We cherish the fact that we can create photographs for lasting memories of people, places, and things. We treasure both two-legged and four-legged children :-)

We specialize in decorating homes with portrait, nature, and urbex art galleries. We enjoy taking "straight" photographs, and creating ART from our photographs, both allow us to capture the moment as our mind's eye sees it. We also teach creative photography and post-processing("Creativity is contagious, pass it on" Albert Einstein).

We have three dogs, two cats, a red-eyed green tree frog (plus a bunch of other frogs, Chameleons, and critters), and a daughter in graduate school. We love sunsets and hot fudge sundaes and embrace the "'Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take but by the number of moments that take your breath away" philosophy!

Did I mention that we love any chance to take photographs? We appreciate the world around us and embrace the challenge of interpreting what our eyes and heart see via the camera lens. We love photographing people - capturing newborn babies all scrunched up and sleepy, the smile of toddler, child, HS senior, model or actor, or an inviting look of a business executive. We also appreciate nature photography (birds, landscapes, flowers) also gives us a chance to appreciate the "everyday miracles" that surround us. And don't forget historic places, abandoned buildings, and factories, they also have a story to tell. We lust for rust, lol.

We are passionate about our photography (we even met in a camera club). We have presented programs at NECCC, Nature Visions, CanAm, CAP, PPA, PPANE, PSA, Greater Lynn, NHCC, and to a lot of other camera and nature clubs across the New England region. We also judge photographic competitions, teach various photography and image editing workshops, have had several successful gallery exhibitions of their work, had photographs in Adirondack Life, Birder's World, Wild Bird, the WCC wolf calendar, and on the cover of paperback novel. Amherst Media recently asked us to write a photography book about their HDR and light painted images. The book, tentatively titled "Beauty in Decay: The Art of Photographing Rusty Dusty Places", was released in early 2017.

We love to teach photography and editing classes, and we lead photo tours and workshops. We offer a variety of photography classes for photographers of all levels. Photography by Lisa and Tom

Lisa Cuchara, PhD, Cr.Photog., M. Photog., HonNEC, and Tom Cuchara, MNEC.

Photographic Craftsman (Cr.Photog.) is awarded by the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) for service as an orator, author or mentor. This degree shows that you have gone beyond the creation of images and dedicated your time to move the industry forward and encourage education. Cr.Photog. is one of the highest recognitions for speaking, writing, or mentoring on photography; it positions the photographer as an authority in the industry.

The Master of Photography degree is not merely a piece of paper. It means that Cuchara has met the standards of excellence set by PPA. She has been awarded this degree in recognition of her superior photographic competence demonstrated through photographic competition, advanced education and service to the profession. In 2020, she was one of only 92 recipients. Cuchara's degrees—and all the expertise they require—illustrate her accomplishments and talent as one of a select few.

MNEC is awarded to those who have performed exceptional service for the Council during a period of not less than five years, and/or have substantially advanced photography in the New England area through lecturing, teaching, judging, and through other administrative activities in photographic organizations for the same period. This honor is limited to a maximum of five each year. The New England Camera Club Council (NECCC) is a non-profit umbrella group for over 70 camera clubs in the New England states.

HonNEC is awarded for superior leadership in the operation of our Council and superior photographic leadership in the New England area. For achieving substantial and outstanding recognition in the field of photography through activities for a minimum of ten years through lecturing, judging, writing, and administrative activities in the New England area. With her commitment and vast knowledge of photography, Lisa epitomizes the concept of the dedicated professional.”

Tom and I have a Portrait Studio located in Hamden, CT. We specialize in decorating homes and businesses with portrait and creative art. Our portrait philosophy is based on our life philosophy "Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take but by the number of moments that take your breath away".  I love taking photographs of furry and non-furry children, and Tom's specialty is adults and families. We cherish the fact that we can create lasting memories for people via our photography. Family portraits tell a story and capture a time and an age for lasting memories. Photographs are important to display and will be cherished for generations to come. We would be honored to photograph your family!

We would be honored to hang our artwork on the walls in your home or business. Call us 203-288-8151 or email us BREAphotos [at] comcast.net to set up a photo session for your headshot, your furry and non-furry children or your family. Let us create lasting memories for you and generations to come!

Tom and I have been photographing since we were teenagers. Tom has had this photography business since Breanna was a toddler. I joined Tom in 2001, we got married a few years later and together we have taken our photography to a higher level. We moved our portrait photography into a formal Studio space in Hamden in 2006 so we could have dedicated space for photographing newborns, children, families, maternity, models, etc. and we also teach photography and post-processing in that space. Within two years we outgrew our small Studio and moved downstairs to a larger suite where we are now. We have been having a blast in our Studio! The name for our portrait side of the business (BREAphotos) arose from Breanna, Tom's daughter. Here is a picture of Breanna, taken by Tom in our Studio and edited by me.
